Frequently asked questions
The essential answers before you buy. Short, honest, direct.
Waterproofing & performance
Yes. Waterproof, not just water-resistant.
The construction relies on a 3-layer ePTFE membrane (outer nylon, waterproof membrane, inner lining) with a waterproof rating of 10,000 mm water column. Seams are fully sealed, which significantly reduces the risk of infiltration in critical zones. The DWR finish makes water bead on the surface.
For reference: 1,500 mm handles a light drizzle. At 10,000 mm, you can move through a sustained downpour without water getting through
Is it breathable?Yes. Breathability is 8,000 g/m²/24h, enough for light hiking or an active commute.
This figure measures how much water vapor passes through the fabric in 24 hours. At 8,000, you won't feel trapped under the layer during moderate effort. For intense, sustained efforts (trail running, steep climbs), a more fitted technical shell remains more effective.
DWR is a surface treatment that makes water bead. It weakens over time but can be reactivated with gentle heat.
Without active DWR, the outer fabric can absorb moisture — the poncho gets heavier and breathability drops. The ePTFE membrane itself retains its waterproof properties regardless of DWR condition.
To reactivate the DWR: iron on low heat (max 110 °C / 230 °F) with a protective cloth between the iron and the poncho, a few seconds per area. Gentle heat is enough — always with care to preserve the fabric.
Dimensions & size guide
One-size unisex fit.
The roomy cut is designed to fit most body types.
Worn width: 144 cm
Worn length: 98 cm
Hood height: 32 cm
Flat dimensions: 144 × 196 cm

The fit is intentionally roomy. Allowing freedom of movement, backpack coverage, and use as an emergency shelter.
Yes, for most lightweight hiking packs up to about 30L.
At 144 cm wide, the Neblina comfortably covers packs in the 20–30L range. For larger packs or those with prominent frames, coverage will be partial. A dedicated rain cover can complete the protection.
It folds into its own integrated pocket: 28 × 22 × 7 cm, about 600 g.
The equivalent of a thick paperback. It fits in a backpack side pocket, a bike pannier, or a larger city bag.
Versatility & uses
Yes, four reinforced metal grommets at the corners allow it to be set up as an auxiliary shelter.
Laid out, it measures 144 × 196 cm. Enough for a pause in the forest, to cover gear, or to shield an opening. It's a useful secondary function, not the product's primary role
Light hiking, cycling, urban commutes, festivals, weekend trips in the forest.
It's designed for people who move between city and outdoors without wanting to multiply their gear. The hood is helmet-compatible, handy for cycling or cross-country skiing. Less suited for very high-intensity efforts or extreme alpine conditions.
Care & durability
Hand-wash in lukewarm water with mild soap. Air-dry in the shade.
Avoid the washing machine and tumble dryer — they gradually degrade the DWR finish and can weaken the sealed seams over time. Don't wring; dry flat or hanging.
DWR weakens with use and washing. Gentle heat can help reactivate it.
Iron the poncho on low heat (max 110 °C / 230 °F) with a protective cloth between the iron and the fabric, a few seconds per area. Always with care. If the water-repellent effect doesn't return, the outer fabric may have absorbed soap residue — a thorough rinse in clean water might solve it.
Yes — waterproof seam tape works for most cases.
Available in most outdoor stores. Apply on the inside over the affected area. For small tears, an adhesive waterproof nylon patch works. For larger damage, write to us at hello@nomaia-outdoors.com.
